Friday Favorites: Born Free Training Cups

A few moms have asked me lately how I got Maggie & Alex off of bottles. So I figured this week I would highlight my "magic" sippy cup & share how I kicked the bottles. When Maggie was about 6 months old I noticed that the sippy cups in Babies R Us said some were for "4month+. I panicked! Like any new mom I freaked out because I realized Maggie was 2 months passed that & had never even sipped a drop from a sippy cup. So of course I bought 5 different cups, all of which she threw on the ground & cried until I gave her a bottle.
Then, I bought a Born Free Training Cup. I had avoided them in my first round of cup shopping because they are a little pricey. TOTALLY worth the price (best price I have seen is Diapers.com). The spout is pretty similar in shape & texture to a bottle nipple. You can also take the handles off so it looks like a bottle too. For the first few times I held it & fed Maggie before she went to sleep at nap time. She drank out of it & before long it was all she used. We still gave her a bottle at night for a while. Then by 1 she started drinking out of any cup I gave her.
I thought maybe it was just Maggie, but seems like the same thing with Alex. She will not take a sippy cup unless it's the Born Free Training Cup! Now, she is 10 months & pretty much done with bottles thanks to these great cups!

  1. I love hearing what works for other moms and babies! So far, Maclane has been a completely different baby than Carter so I love hearing great reviews on products I didn't necessarily use the first time around- there's a good chance Mac won't take the same sippy C did- so this is good to know! :) Thanks for sharing!

  2. I wish my little guy liked the training spouts/cups from born free. (we use born free bottles) because I bought the spouts to go with the bottles to transition and he likes to bang the bottle on his tray and chew on it, but that's it. le sigh!

  4. I'm with you...my mom just asked me the other day why I hadn't started training my 6-month old on a sippy! It hadn't even dawned on me that he was old enough yet. Alas, we bought one this week and I can't believe what a champ he is.

  9. Thanks for stopping by Our Family of Three! I am so glad you did. A friend and I were jut talking about how difficult it was going to be to break our 14 month olds from the bottle. I'm going to try these. You got yourself a new follower :)

  10. Thanks for the tip! My first daughter went off the bottle no problem, but #2 is fighting it like crazy. She will drink water out of a sippy, but not milk. I will try this one for sure! She drinks from a Tommy Tippee bottle and I am convinced she won't get off of it because its so much like a real nipple...thats my theory anyway :)
