DIY Rainbow Costume

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Cottonelle, but all opinions are my own. #pmedia #CottonelleTarget

When we were kids, my mom made most of our Halloween costumes. She put hard work and a lot of love into each costume. We still have a costume that my mom made for me when I was 2 years old. My brothers and cousins have all worn it and now my girls have worn it too. I enjoy making costumes for Maggie and Alex year round since they love to dress up so much! This year, Maggie found a costume in the store that she really wanted (one of her favorite tv characters), so I let her get it and decided to make something for Alex.
Alex loves colors and rainbows, so I wanted to make a bright, fun rainbow costume with fluffy clouds. I planned on making the rainbow dress out of felt and we headed to Target to get supplies for our "fluffy clouds".  We picked up Cottonelle Triple Roll. It's soft, fluffy and perfect for making clouds!
Right now at Target, when you buy Cottonelle Triple Roll 12 pack or larger, you get a FREE box of Kleenex.  You need a coupon & can download it here. Offer available while supplies last.
We picked up both the Cottonelle Triple Roll and Kleenex and headed home to get to work.

How To Make A Rainbow Costume

Cottonelle Triple Roll toilet paper
White foam sheets
Stick on velcro
Large piece of Red felt (about 1/2 yard)
Felt sheets: orange, yellow, green, bright blue, navy blue & light blue
Red Ribbon
Hot glue
Yellow Shirt
Blue Tights
I  found the "sunshine" headband as a finishing touch!

Take a jumper that your little one currently fits in and trace it on the large piece of red felt to make a pattern. Cut out 2 pieces from the traced pattern (to make the front and back of the dress).
Make an "arch" pattern from a piece of paper. Use that pattern to start cutting out the different color arches of the rainbow. Add the colored arches from the top down. Use the light blue piece to fill in the opening at the bottom (this piece should look like the "sky" under the arches. If you don't have a sewing machine, you can hand stitch the sides of the dress together & use glue to apply the rainbow arches onto the dress.
Use the red ribbon to make the straps. Sew/glue them on the front of the dress and use the felt to attach them to the back.
Now for the Cottonelle clouds! Cut cloud shapes out of the white foam. Break off sheets of Cottonelle Triple Roll, a few squares long. I did different sizes around the cloud. Then pinch the strip in the middle to make it "fluff" and hot glue it onto the foam. Continue glueing the Cottonelle Triple Roll pieces until your cloud looks nice and fluffy.
I used the sticky velcro to attach the clouds to the dress. Then, if you want to wash the dress, you can just peel the clouds off and then stick them back on.
Alex loves her rainbow costume! She is my little sunshine and I love watching her run around in this costume. She is so excited to wear it for her first time trick or treating this week.
Be sure to print your Cottonelle Triple Roll coupon and head to Target. We had fun using the Cottonelle for our rainbow costume and then we used the free box of Kleenex to make some Spooky Ghosts when we got home: Kleenex tied around a lollipop with a spooky face drawn on.
Happy Halloween!
